WALSTEIN MCCORD OWENS

Walstein M. Owens 86 died Monday, May 22, 2006 at Hospice Savannah. A native of Sylvania, Georgia and a resident of Savannah since 1946. He was the founder of Owens and Son Iron Works in Savannah. He was responsible for much of the renovation of the iron work in the Historical Savannah District. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in WWII in the Pacific Arena.

Preceded in death by his granddaughter Heather Owens.

Surviving are, his wife, Jean Smith Owens of Savannah, a son, James R. Owens of Hilton Head Island, his daughters, Patricia Ellis of Mechanicsville, VA., Frances Weaver of Jonesboro, GA., Betty Lariscy of Savannah, Kathleen Owens of Savannah, a step-son, Mark B. Smith of Ashville, NC., step-daughters, Teresa McDaniel of Clover, SC., Deena McRackan of Charleston, SC., and eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at 10 a.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel with visitation to follow service.
